The presence of Etruscan and Roman civilizations in Maremma is confirmed by the numerous archaeological sites in the area. The main are the following:
In the Northern part of the Maremma findings of ovens and cemeteries remind us of the importance of mining in the past and all related activities.
Necropolis and Etruscan City of Vetulonia: located just 30 minutes from our resort, in Vetulonia, in the municipality of Castiglione. Among the most important findings here are the Tomb of Diavolino II and the Tomb of Pietrera.
In the Central Maremma the town of Roselle has significant archaeological importance,, due to the fact that it was not impacted by modern buildings, it preserves the historical developments of the city, from the beginning of its urbanization to the Middle Ages.
The Etruscan / Roman city of Roselle:located just 40 minutes from our resort, overlooking the ancient mouth of the river Ombrone. the walls that enclosed public and private buildings, land, and areas used for grazing, are still intact. Remains of particular importance are the Domus, the Court area and the Amphitheatre.
In the Southern part of the Maremma, thanks to the presence of the rivers Albegna and Fiora, many settlements have been discovered.
The necropolis of Sovana: boasts some monumental tombs of great value such as the Hildebrand Tomb, and the Tomb of the Siren.
The fortified settlement of Ghiaccio Forte: located in the Municipality of Scansano, it was created to defend the Etruscan territory. Still visible are the remains of the ancient walls that served this purpose.
