MONTALCINO
Montalcino is a charming medieval town in Tuscany, located in the province of Siena, world-famous for its Brunello di Montalcino, one of the most prestigious wines internationally. The town is nestled in the Val d'Orcia, recognized byUNESCO as a world heritage site for its unique landscape.
Montalcino's history is rooted in Etruscan and Roman times, but it was in the Middle Ages that it became an important strategic center, especially during the struggles between Siena and Florence. It still preserves intact its medieval urban layout, with walls, towers and historic buildings.
Among the most emblematic monuments is the Montalcino Fortress, built in 1361, which dominates the village from above, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. The fortress is now a venue for cultural events and wine tastings.
Brunello di Montalcino, made from Sangiovese grapes and subject to strict aging criteria, is the village's oenological symbol. In addition to Brunello, Rosso di Montalcino and Moscadello di Montalcino are also produced, testaments to the area's winemaking tradition.
Montalcino is home to several fine churches, including the Cathedral of San Salvatore and the Church of Sant'Egidio. Just outside the center, theAbbey of Sant'Antimo represents one of the most striking examples of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany.
Today Montalcino is a beloved destination for tourists, wine and culture enthusiasts. Theauthentic atmosphere, breathtaking views and traditional events such as Brunello Week and the Sagra del Tordo make the village a unique experience in the heart of Tuscany.
