VALPIANA MARINE WORLD

The Aquarium Mondo Marino in Valpiana is more than just an aquarium; it is a true environmental education center and home to the prestigious Shark Study Center, a scientific institute internationally known for its research on sharks conducted in South Africa, Madagascar and the Mediterranean Sea. Founded in 2000, the center is a reference point for scholars, enthusiasts and those curious about the marine world.

The aquarium's exhibition tour offers a fascinating journey through different thematic areas: from the waters of the Mediterranean to those of the Indo-Pacific Ocean, to the"World of Sharks." One of the main attractions is a panoramic tank that simulates a tropical lagoon, populated by shark species such as the Blacktip and Grey Bamboo. Altogether, the aquarium is home to six different species of sharks, along with more than 150 other marine species including moray eels, batfish, clownfish and other exotic creatures.

In addition to the exhibition tanks, the aquarium also includes a pavilion dedicated to mollusks, filled with exhibits of scientific interest, and an outdoor section called"Explora Dinosaurs," which features life-size replicas of dinosaurs and prehistoric fish, providing a unique opportunity to explore the evolution of species over 400 million years.

During the summer, visitors can attend the shark feeding, an educational opportunity where staff share valuable information about the biology of these animals and the challenges associated with their conservation.

For families, the aquarium is a perfect destination, thanks in part to guided tours and organized educational activities.

To reach theAcquarium Mondo Marino from Borgo Etrusco, simply follow the Puntone Provincial Road, via the Scarlino Provincial Road and Regional Road 439, to Valpiana.

A visit to this aquarium is not only an opportunity to admire marine life, but also to understand the importance of protecting marine ecosystems and biodiversity.
